Code of conduct for learners

Legal framework

Section 8 (1 – 5) of South African School Act (SASA) amendment laws of 2005.

Objectives

• To create a safe learning environment.
• To ensure that learners perform their school work at a higher level without fear.
• To ensure that there is order and discipline in the school.
• To ensure that learners are treated uniformly, without prejudice and with dignity.
• To continuously uplift the image of the school.
• To provide guidelines of acceptable behaviour of learners.
• To involve all stakeholders in the disciplining of the child.
• To enhance the culture of learning and teaching.

Operations

• Each supervising group (teachers) should submit reports to the assigned SMT member.
• Each group is to have a group leader and an assistant.
• The supervision shall be on a monthly basis.
• Implementation plan on supervision, recording of demerits, detention and supervision must be drawn up at the beginning of each month.
• The group leader must ensure that the report is available at the end of the month.

Classroom

• All learners have the right to learn in a quiet, undisturbed atmosphere.
• The learners should respect each other’s property.
• The learners are not to make graffiti on the walls, desks or chairs.
• Learners are not allowed to ridicule one another.
• No eating or chewing in the classroom is allowed.
• Learners are to offer assistance to others when requested.

Assembly

The learner will

• Line up quietly and orderly.
• Respect the surroundings.
• Not eat or have a drink.

Playgrounds/ Buildings

• All litter is to be placed in the dustbin.
• No writing on the walls.
• No spitting.
• No bullying.
• There should be silence when the bell rings.

Extra curricular activities

• Development of skills and enjoyment are important.
• We respect the umpire’s decision.
• A winner never quits and a quitter never wins.
• Spectators should give players moral support and should behave courteously.
• Self discipline is required at all activities.
• Ask the coach/educator to exclude you from the practise if you cannot attend.
• No screaming and shouting. Keep the tone down!!!
• No chewing gum.
• Wear the appropriate sport uniform.
• Make a commitment to the activity you practice in.

General rules

• Learners and adults greet one another at all school practices.
• Visitors should be greeted and be treated with respect.
• No learner may leave the sport ground during school hours without the permission of the principal or the educator.
• School grounds, buildings are out of bounds during holidays, after school and weekends.
• No bad language is allowed.
• No drugs, smoking, stealing and vandalism is allowed.
• The learner should be punctual for school.

School uniform

• The correct school uniform must be worn at all times. When you wear school uniform in public, your behaviour must be exemplary. (Boys must not walk about with their hands in their trouser pockets).

Jewellery

• Girls may only wear signet ring stud earrings.
• Boys may not wear any jewellery. Jewellery will be confiscated and only be returned at the end of the term.


Hair

Girls

• Hairstyles should always be neat.
• Hair may not be coloured.
• No exotic hairstyles.

Boys

• Hair must be kept short and neat.
• No colouring.
