Code of conduct for learners

Legal framework

Section 8 (1 – 5) of South African School Act (SASA) amendment laws of 2005.

Objectives

• To create a safe learning environment.
• To ensure that learners perform their school work at a higher level without fear.
• To ensure that there is order and discipline in the school.
• To ensure that learners are treated uniformly, without prejudice and with dignity.
• To continuously uplift the image of the school.
• To provide guidelines of acceptable behaviour of learners.
• To involve all stakeholders in the disciplining of the child.
• To enhance the culture of learning and teaching.

Operations

• Each supervising group (teachers) should submit reports to the assigned SMT member.
• Each group is to have a group leader and an assistant.
• The supervision shall be on a monthly basis.
• Implementation plan on supervision, recording of demerits, detention and supervision must be drawn up at the beginning of each month.
• The group leader must ensure that the report is available at the end of the month.

Classroom

• All learners have the right to learn in a quiet, undisturbed atmosphere.
• The learners should respect each other’s property.
• The learners are not to make graffiti on the walls, desks or chairs.
• Learners are not allowed to ridicule one another.
• No eating or chewing in the classroom is allowed.
• Learners are to offer assistance to others when requested.

Assembly

The learner will

• Line up quietly and orderly.
• Respect the surroundings.
• Not eat or have a drink.

Playgrounds/ Buildings

• All litter is to be placed in the dustbin.
• No writing on the walls.
• No spitting.
• No bullying.
• There should be silence when the bell rings.

Extra curricular activities

• Development of skills and enjoyment are important.
• We respect the umpire’s decision.
• A winner never quits and a quitter never wins.
• Spectators should give players moral support and should behave courteously.
• Self discipline is required at all activities.
• Ask the coach/educator to exclude you from the practise if you cannot attend.
• No screaming and shouting. Keep the tone down!!!
• No chewing gum.
• Wear the appropriate sport uniform.
• Make a commitment to the activity you practice in.

General rules

• Learners and adults greet one another at all school practices.
• Visitors should be greeted and be treated with respect.
• No learner may leave the sport ground during school hours without the permission of the principal or the educator.
• School grounds, buildings are out of bounds during holidays, after school and weekends.
• No bad language is allowed.
• No drugs, smoking, stealing and vandalism is allowed.
• The learner should be punctual for school.

School uniform

• The correct school uniform must be worn at all times. When you wear school uniform in public, your behaviour must be exemplary. (Boys must not walk about with their hands in their trouser pockets).

Jewellery

• Girls may only wear signet ring stud earrings.
• Boys may not wear any jewellery. Jewellery will be confiscated and only be returned at the end of the term.


Hair

Girls

• Hairstyles should always be neat.
• Hair may not be coloured.
• No exotic hairstyles.

Boys

• Hair must be kept short and neat.
• No colouring.

Maintenance policy

Maintenance policy

Objectives

• To ensure that the school’s physical status is kept up to standard.
• To repair damaged property.
• To provide equipments for cleaning of the school.
• To service damaged equipments, toilets and machines.

Operations

• The cleaning materials shall be purchased by the school for the first semester.
• The cleaning material for the second semester shall be provided for with the assistance of the parents.
• A minimum once – off payments per learner shall be done per learner as agreed with the parents.
• The main responsibility of execution shall be carried by the relevant committee, PS staff and learners where necessary.
• Maintenance shall be done in line with the school development plan.

Members

• Members shall be from educators, PS staff and the SGB.

Coordination

• The coordination shall be done by the school governing body (SGB) in line with South African School Act (SASA).
• Maintenance plan shall be drawn by the SGB and be communicated to all stakeholders.

Telephone policy

Telephone policy

Purpose

The purpose of the telephone it to communicate with the school, i.e. to convey messages to the districts, surrounding schools, parents and interested parties concerning matters that concerns the welfare of the school.
Personal matters are restricted to emergency matters.

Official calls

They are to be made by the principal or someone delegated by him concerning school matters.

Private calls

• No private calls are allowed.
• Incoming calls are allowed only during break, i.e. 11H15 – 12H00 and after schools.
• Messages will be taken by the administrator at any time.

Costs

• The cost of the telephone bills is the responsibility of the school.
• Emergency calls will be charged for 3 minutes, i.e. local – R3.00.
• Areas around Soshanguve, i.e. Pretoria, Atteridgeville, Mamelodi, Mabopane, Garankuwa, etc. will be charged R5.00.
• Further than these areas, the cost will be R10.00.

Control

• The principal and the two deputy principals are in charge of the telephone.
• A telephone register indicating the time, the date and the place of the destination of the call will be kept.

Office computers policy

Office Computers policy

Objectives

1. To enhance office management of school management team (SMT)
2. To offer computer practice and skill development to SMT and educators.
3. To eliminate traffic to the administration office.
4. To prepare work programme, tests and projects.
5. To enhance collaborative teaching in the various teaching department.

Rules

1. The computer is the property of the school.
2. The head(s) of department in the office where there is a computer are responsible for their safety.
3. The office stock is to be checked quarterly.
4. The office incumbent is to keep the duplicate key.
5. The other key is to be kept by the administrator and has to be used when the incumbent is absent.
6. Loss of the computer is to be the responsibility of the incumbent.
7. The computer should, under no circumstances be removed from the office.
8. The use of the computer for personal reason is prohibited/ private work is not allowed.
9. No individual should play games or open on pornographic material (in case internet gets connected).
10. No work shall be done by the administrator(s) relating to item 4 of objectives.


The user must

1. Be an employee of the school (SMT) member.
2. Be an educator at the school and use the computer through permission from their specific HOD’s.
3. Ensure that if there is a problem while using the computer, she or he should not try to fix it himself orherself.
4. Ensure that before the use of any diskette, the user should scan the diskette and flash disks for viruses.
5. Ensure that after using the computer, it remains covered from dust, etc.

Kgotlelelang Primary School Policy

PREAMBLE

The staff of Kgotlelelang Primary School unanimously agreed to the drawing of a good school policy which will serve as a guideline to the administration, teaching roles and interpersonal relations between the staff, the pupils and the parents.

Kgotlelelang has several school policies which have been agreed upon by the staff, SGB and learners. This are linked to the legal frameworks like the South African School’s Act, Education Law and Policy, Employment Equity Act, Basic Condition of Employment Act and South African Council of Educator

Contents

School Policy Amendments

a. School motto: Persevere, Endure and Prosper.
b. Time: The school day/ lessons start at 08H00.
c. the lessons shall end at 14H00 and the school day
at 15H00.
d. School colours: Navy blue dress and White shirts
e. Corporal punishment: As per school Act of 1996 Section 10
f. Subject allocation: Teachers shall be allocated subjects by the HOD
g. The previous records of performance to be the
yardstick for determining allocation.
